Measurement

The tension rope has been tightened and the road out of the shipyard has been prepared, but first the boat needs to be measured.

The survey is carried out by people from the National Museum

All measurement data is loaded into computers for later modelling into a 3D model of the boat.

One of the measurement methods is the use of a 3D measuring arm.

Another measurement method is the use of a total station (theodolite) - the device on the tripod in the background. It uses a laser.

The red/white stick is the target of the laser, giving distance and height from the theodolite.

Quite a few points on the boat are measured.

Both measurement methods are used simultaneously.

1999-05-30, the day the boat goes into the water for the very first time. The boat will be carried out by 20 people, each with an old fire hose over their shoulder.

Now we need to get the boat moored to the floating pier in the background.

The boat is now at the floating pier ready for sailing.

The reconstructed Hjortspring boat is finally in its true element, almost as it was 2,370 years ago!
